01 — How it works

How it works

Three moves. Everything else is detail.

  1. Start from a template

Pick an official checklist (Grand Soleil 42, Bavaria 34 Cruiser, Oceanis 411, or a generic cruising sailboat), one shared by another owner, or a blank boat.

  2. Make it your boat

Install the systems you have and archive the ones you do not. Set intervals by calendar or by engine hours. Flag what is safety-critical.

  3. Tick off as you go

Home shows what is overdue and due soon. One tap marks a task done, with undo. Due dates follow from your schedule and your last completion.

02 — What you can do

What you can do

Built on a real boat, for the work a cruising boat actually needs.

Boat plan

Five areas of the boat, each with a traffic light. Open an area, tap a light, and see the tasks at that spot.

Document vault

Manuals and certificates filed in a tree that mirrors the boat, next to the completion log you show at inspection.

Engine hours

A task can fall due by calendar, by engine hours, or whichever comes first. Log a reading; the clock does the rest.

Task emails

A daily or weekly email of what is due, if you ask for it. Off by default, one click to stop.

English, Français, Italiano

The whole app, the emails and the legal texts in three languages. Your choice is remembered.

Your data stays yours

Download everything at any time, and delete your account, files included, from inside the app.

Try an example

The “Generic cruising sailboat” template is included for everyone: a neutral starting point to adapt, export and share.

AI is optional

Checklists and manuals work without AI. If you want AI to file uploaded manuals and translate your own wording, you add your own provider key in settings. Switch AI off and YachtPlan makes no model calls at all.

03 — Templates and sharing

Templates and sharing

Adapt a checklist, export it as a .ypl file, and hand it to another owner. They import it as their own boat or template and keep it up to date themselves.

  1. Adapt a checklist to your boat.
  2. Save it as a template and export the .ypl file.
  3. Share the file, for example in a forum post or a message.
  4. The other owner imports it into their own account.

What a template contains

  • Areas, systems, components and tasks, with their intervals and priorities.
  • A name, make, model, years and a description.
  • Not included: manual files and uploaded documents.
  • An imported template is a copy. It does not update when the original author changes theirs.

Before you share

Export a template, not your whole boat. A boat export also carries vessel details such as hull number, MMSI, call sign, home port and document titles. Review any file before you share it, and add where your checklist came from so others can judge it. Community checklists are not manufacturer-approved and are not affiliated with any manufacturer.

04 — Why is it free?

Why is this free?

I have lived aboard a 42-foot sailboat for five years. A cruising boat has many systems, and keeping up with their maintenance is how you avoid expensive repairs. So I built YachtPlan for myself, and I have used it on my own boat for a year.

Now I want to give something back to this community. I can only afford to cover the costs of up to 90 users. Beyond that I promise to keep it free for those first 90 users, but I will have to work out a way to pay for it.

Storage is limited to 200 MB per account, so that everyone can upload their manuals. If many people use YachtPlan and all their manuals end up stored in one place, I will have to find a way to cover that cost.

05 — Sign in

Ready to look after your boat?

How signing in works

  1. Enter your email address. Nothing else is asked.
  2. Open the email and press “Sign in”. The link works once, for 15 minutes, and only after you press the button, so a mail scanner cannot use it up.
  3. You are in. One cookie keeps you signed in on this device; sign out whenever you like.

Why no password? Nothing to remember and nothing to leak. Your inbox is already the key to every password reset; YachtPlan simply skips the password.
